Call for quotes

Righteous old Gorgeous George Orwell is gathering dust up there in the right hand corner. Here's a request for anyone to send me new quotes for blog-decoration. Obscure, funny, politically right-on. Bring it on.

Our minidictionary of quotations(!) opened up at TS Elliot (1888-1965):

Human Kind
Cannot bear very much reality.

or the slightly glum:

This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but with a whimper.

or my favourite:
Here we go round the prickly pear
Prickly pear prickly pear

You can't go past H L Mencken for a good hearty quote I say:

"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard."

or

"The older I grow the more I distrust the familiar doctrine that age brings wisdom."

or

"There is always a well-known solution to every human problem--neat, plausible, and wrong."

or my personal fave:

"Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats."

Howzat?
